Vertical columns
Line up the ones and tens partial products, then add. Check each row on the worked key.
GRADE 5 / WRITTEN MULTIPLICATION

THE SAME SIX QUESTIONS
Line up the ones and tens partial products, then add. Check each row on the worked key.
Split each factor by place value. Each of the six boxes contributes to a partial product.
WORK THROUGH QUESTION 1
Estimate first. 816 is close to 800 and 37 is close to 40. A product near 32,000 is reasonable.
AT THE MARKING TABLE
If the second row reads 2,448, ask what the 3 in 37 represents. That row counts tens. If a child wrote only a final answer, ask for both rows before choosing what to practise.

Question 2 has a zero in the middle of 809. Keep the tens column in place when multiplying. In question 6, the multiplier is 50. Write zero for the ones row, then compute the full tens row.
For a second assignment, open either format and choose Shuffle. For two groups, choose two matched forms in the generator. Each worksheet and key has a P7 code that reopens its exact version in Find my worksheet. A follow-up slip also prints the source question number so you can return to the problem that prompted it.
These six problems practise the standard algorithm for whole numbers in Common Core 5.NBT.B.5. For smaller factors, start with two digits by two digits. For fraction factors, try multiplying fractions worksheets.
